Why the Dog Training Industry Will Never Sue Me (And Why They Desperately Threaten To)

If you spend enough years talking about actual behavioral science instead of industry marketing, your inbox becomes a museum of creative threats.

I’ve been told the police are coming, received direct threats of bodily harm, and even faced threats to my life. I’ve had people threaten to launch massive defamation campaigns. I’ve even had folks threaten to call Interpol—yes, international police—simply because I dared to quote B.F. Skinner or dropped a reaction video calling out their lies and ignorance.

And let’s be honest: it’s funny. But out of all the noise, the one empty threat that always makes me smile is the classic, “I’m going to sue you.”

Oh, please. Do it.

I would love nothing more than for one of these big-name, self-proclaimed “behavior experts” to actually call a lawyer, file a lawsuit, and put me on a witness stand. Because the moment we step into a courtroom, the illusion ends.

The Ultimate Trap: “Define Behavior”

If a celebrity force-free trainer ever sued me, the cross-examination would be over in about thirty seconds.

All I’d have to do is look at them under oath and ask one simple question:

“You claim to be an expert in behavior. Please, define the word behavior for the court.”

They wouldn’t be able to do it. Not accurately, anyway. Because their entire multi-million dollar franchise ecosystem—complete with corporate training modules, rigid rules, and ideological purity tests—isn’t built on science. It’s built on science by vote. If you can get enough birds in a room to chirp the exact same corporate song, congratulations, you have an “industry consensus.”

Bringing Skinner to Court

These gurus love to drop B.F. Skinner’s name. They claim he created their beloved “four quadrants” of dog training.

There is just one tiny, embarrassing problem: Skinner explicitly opposed punishment. He understood that punishment doesn’t systematically alter behavior the way a real reinforcement contingency does. The man spent his life mapping out how organisms actually interact with their environments, not handing out a 2×2 matrix for commercial dog trainers to slap on a t-shirt.

If we went to court, I’d bring Skinner and old-school pioneers like Konrad Most right into the record with me. I’d walk those big-name gurus through the actual 1938 definition of an operant.

And they would fold like a cheap tent.

Why They Hide Behind Empty Threats

That is precisely why they won’t sue.

They rely entirely on administrative intimidation, backchannel complaints, and social media blacklists because their entire philosophy collapses the second it has to face actual, real-world data and operational reality. Discovery is a slaughterhouse for people selling dogmatic vibes instead of science.

They can cancel my friends behind closed doors. They can send their corporate compliance squads after anyone who steps out of line. But stepping into a court of law to defend a fake science?

They fucking well know they wouldn’t stand a chance.
